So visitors to my website can have a little background to my life so far, I will give very briefly what has been going for the 18 years, that is since I retired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, just to satisfay the more inquistive of you who ask what did you do before you retired in 2006, I will summarise that in one short paragraph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BEFORE I RETIRED<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I started in 1965 and worked for 41 years in financial services working first for Sun Life then in 1986 moved into the sales admin side, working for Barclays Insurance Services. My final phase of working was 10 years dealing with the “Pensions Review” both as an employee and self-emplyed with tha last few years running my own company ending with a spell at PriceWaterhouseCoopers or PWC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SINCE I RETIRED<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For a couple of years I did a tremendous amount of reasearch and created a huge GATENBY Family Tree. Then in early 2010 I joined the Mendip Ramblers, both to get some exercise as well as to get out into our beautiful countryside mainly in Somerset, but occasionally further afield. Then later that year established the project to walk from my home at Dove Cottage. Henton Somerset to the Extremities which I completed in 2012\/3. Then just to be sure I was the only completely mad person on the planet, went on to walk to the Intercardinal points or The Sharp Corners as I call them in 2017\/8. You can still visit the websites mentioned on my Welcome Page. These treks are at last being written up under the collective Title of Three Blue Plaques. However, from about 2008 during periods when I was at home I set about creating a details summarry of all the burials in the graveyard at Christ Church Henton not just the marked graves mention above. In due course this data will be available on a separate Website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the years I have been providing Mendip and Somer Valley Ramblers with a display of rambling pictures. Of course I have hundreds of picture of my Exremities and SharpCorners walks. For over 60 years I have from time to time indulged in a bit of poetry and often add a suiatble rhyme to the foot of the pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You may begin to ask where do I find the time to do all this and keep an interest in my 8 grandchildren as well as write great volumes of which so far two of the shorter epistles have been published. The answer is with difficulty and now I am approaching 80 I feel I an running out of time. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
